I've always loved working with agates and jaspers that are prospected and mined in the American West -- they come from here and they LOOK like it.
This is creamy dreamy Bruneau Jasper from the Bruneau River canyon of Idaho (near our farm) set in heavy sterling silver and anointed with my hand fabricated sage leaves. These settings are intricate yet close wearing. They honor these cuts of jasper so well.
I look at these rings and am transported to a basalt canyon rim in fall. A cold wind is nipping at the corners of my eyes and the sage is rattling around my hips. In the distance, my dog is working a covey of chukar and a hawk is stalled above us, frozen in place on the crest of the gale.
This is good work. It's a love letter to the steppe country of Idaho I am lucky enough to call home -- a wild territory for the strong of heart.
