I've always loved working with agates and jaspers that are prospected and mined in the American West -- they come from here and they LOOK like it.
This is Succor Creek Jasper, a local jasper a friend cut for me. I've set it in simple sterling on a heavy band -- a spare setting that speaks to the spareness of the steppe country -- a place where beauty resides but is slow to emerge.
I look at these jasper rings and am transported to a basalt canyon rim in fall. A cold wind is nipping at the corners of my eyes and the sage is rattling around my hips. In the distance, my dog is working a covey of chukar and a hawk is stalled above us, frozen in place on the crest of the gale.
This is good work. It's a love letter to the steppe country of Idaho I am lucky enough to call home -- a wild territory for the strong of heart.
US Ring size 6.5 with one of my wide and tapered bands. Look for a fit that is at least a half size smaller than it measures.
