Late in the season now and the grass is turning gold and the rabbitbrush is blooming bright yellow and the sunflowers are towering against a washed denim sky and the sage has seeded out and smoke turns the sunset blood red in the evenings and the garden looks tired and I'm feeling ready for the season to change, ready for those fall rains to revive the canyon and bring a fuzz of fresh green before the hard frosts come and do their killing. This necklace is a kind of crying out for rest and recovery after the blasting heat of summer and air choked with forest fire smoke. I'm ready for a cooler sun, longer nights, a little mercy.
